"It's time for bed." — The Beatles
The motif on this wallpaper was drawn from an oak leaf found in a medieval English manuscript. Spare, structural, quietly gothic — the kind of pattern that has been on walls for centuries and doesn't particularly care what decade it finds itself in.
Printed by hand using carved pearwood blocks pressed into distemper paint made from chalk, hide glue, and non-toxic pigments. The gold pigment is mineral-based, mixed into the distemper the same way it would have been in a medieval workshop. Background painted first, the leaf printed on top, colour by colour, layer by layer.
A bedroom is the obvious choice — the title insists on it. But it works just as well in a hallway or a staircase, anywhere that benefits from something ancient and unhurried on the walls.
