Auf dem Wasser zu singen
A contemporary interpretation of the classic damask, Auf dem Wasser zu singen draws its inspiration from the quiet mythology of the Donkmeer in Berlare, a landscape of still water, reeds, birds, and hidden movement beneath the surface.
Known for its eels, water birds, and rich wetland life, the lake becomes here a decorative landscape: herons, ducks, dragonflies, lilies, and winding eels are woven into a symmetrical composition that recalls historic textile damasks while remaining unmistakably alive and local.
The design was created by Veroniek De Leenheer, reimagining traditional ornamental language through the lens of the Flemish waterscape. It is both decorative and narrative, a pattern that rewards looking twice.
Each roll is printed by hand using traditional pear wood block printing, a slow and demanding technique that gives the surface its depth, texture, and subtle irregularities. Printed with non-toxic pigments and traditional paints.
Available in a range of colourways, from soft mineral tones to richer statement palettes.
A historical technique for a living landscape, made for interiors that appreciate craftsmanship, memory, and ornament with a story.
